A Little Taste of Success

I have had the recent experience for the first time, of a successful debate in my Political Science class.  While granted, it is not an achievement of a lifetime. It is one small success that I can tuck under my belt.  I was perhaps the most excited about connecting the dots between two local props and the economic crisis that they contribute to. Kudos to me!  This was definitely a first for me.  I am now a political thinker!

Family Matters

We sometimes get caught up in the daily grind.  Work and no play, makes for a long and boring day!  Taking the time to do something meaningful, playful and fancyfree is one of the most improtant things you can do for yourself and those around you. Allowing yourself to unwind, and de-stress will help with keeping familial relationships happy and strong!

Can this old dog learn new tricks?

Have you ever heard the old addage "you can't teach and old dog new tricks"?  Deep in the abyss of my thoughts, I wonder if that could really be true.  I struggle with the same conflicts time and time again, and each time it happens I just know that I won't ever let it happen again.  Is there such a point when your brain stops learning how to do things differently?
If anyone could shed some light on this subject I would greatly appreciate it!

A night of education: learning and how to learn, and definition

A lifelong pursuit and nagging itch that must be scratched.   Knowledge is the depth of the inner self.  Is there detriment to education?  Is there truth to the old wives tale, "Ignorance is bliss"?  The more I learn, the more I truly know how much I don't know.  I thirst for more knowledge every time I have a taste.  Had I not learned to delve deeper into the core of me, would I be in this knowledge defecit?
The question of the day:  Does knowledge create a better way of life, or an unecessarily, convoluted way of living?

Relief

Relief is when the kids are in bed, the dishes are done, and when your wine glass runneth over.. Generally that how I would like my night to end, however, I forgot to mention the mountain of laundry, the 30 pages of homework, and the neverending dish saga.. The wine, that part doesn't have to change.  Those nagging dishes will never go away.  I realize that my strengths lie elseware.
Today is a day of victory!.. I have had great success in juggling many hats!  An occasional breakdown, but overall generally pretty copesetic.  It is nights like these that make me grateful to have such a wonderful supportive family, a roof over my head and a moment to reflect on the important things in life.  How did your day go?  How do you wind down for the evening?

When you've made a mistake in life sometimes apologizing is harder than walking away

Making mistakes in life is inevitable.  No matter how many mistakes we've made, apologizing doesn't seem to get any easier.  I find, especially with my children, that apologizing in some round about way admits defeat. When you are supposed to be the authoratative figure, admitting that you are wrong can be a tough pill to swallow.  The more you recognize when you are wrong and can apologize, the more respect you will ultimately gain in life.   A sleepless night's lingering thought.. Goodnight.

Transition

Life moves forward so quickly and takes so many different forms and directions, we cannot stop or sit by the wayside.  You ask yourself as time slips by, how many years since my first kiss?  My graduation from high school?  My first child's birth?
Middle age sets in and we start to wonder, are we good people?  Good parents?  What does my life really mean?  I have recently come to the realization that these questions can only be answered by a growth in perspective.  As a child truly understanding a concept for the first time, similarly, middle agedness brings definition to unanswered thoughts and questions.
